Liberal Group Dings Fitzpatrick, Perry over Chao

A progressive oversight group is hitting the television airwaves in two different media markets in the commonwealth this week calling attention to two GOP Congressman serving on the House Transportation Committee.

Restore Public Trust, a “non-partisan public interest group” that aims at promoting accountability and transparency in the Trump administration, started airing television ads in the Philadelphia and Harrisburg markets yesterday calling on Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) and Scott Perry (R-York) to investigate Sec. Elaine Chao.

“Secretary Elaine Chao isn’t draining the swamp,” the narrator says to begin the ad. “She’s making it deeper.”

The ad accuses Chao, wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), of using taxpayer funds on projects benefiting McConnell.

Both ads end by calling Fitzpatrick and Perry by name and saying their Congressman “failed to stop her,” while calling on them to investigate Chao now.

The ad, launched yesterday, will run through August 4.

The Fitzpatrick and Perry campaign did not immediately respond to comment, but the NRCC described the ads as a false “smear” and say the ad is from “shady backers.”

“Leave it to the socialist Democrats and their shady backers to think it’s smart to falsely smear the Secretary of Transportation,” said NRCC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Hope they enjoy lighting their money on fire!”

Restore Public Trust launched in November 2018 and is led by a number of veteran progressive operatives

According to the Daily Beast, the top targets that the group is focusing on from their launch in the Trump administration included Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

The two ads running in Pennsylvania right now are the group’s first ads in the state and two of just three running nationwide currently calling for Chao to be investigated.

Fitzpatrick and Perry are also both targets from the DCCC to flip in 2020.

  1. “Restore Public Trust” is a Democratic Party Front Group run by left-wing political hacks with numerous connections to the party. Their leaders are from the Obama Adminstration. For them to claim that they are non-partisan is a bold-faced lie. And if they’ll lie about that you know their credibility is zero.

  2. Another “nonpartisan public interest group” that enjoys the support of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which accuses mainstream conservative groups of being “hate groups” on a par with the Ku Klux Klan. Does not Restore Public Trust also benefit from the assistance of American Bridge 21st Century, which is largely funded by George Soros? Are not Restore Public Trust’s campaigns solely directed against Republicans and the Trump administration? Why are only Democratic hacks and Obama acolytes involved in the activities of this “public interest group”?

  3. Scott Perry is spineless so no doubt he won’t respond. Hope the attack ads continue to rain on him.
