This past Friday, Democrat Ray Linsenmayer joined the group of individuals who are challenging Republican Keith Rothfus (R-Allegheny) in the 12th Congressional District.
“I’m running for Congress because more families need to be able to get ahead. Too many families in Western Pennsylvania play by the rules only to be left out. Everyone needs to be able to afford decent healthcare, our communities need real solutions to the opioid crisis, and we need a public school system that is able to teach to more than just a test,” Linsenmayer said in an announcement.
According to the Post-Gazette, Linsenmayer is an active Democrat in his town. Recently he has formed an activist group called the North Pittsburgh Democratic Volunteer Corps– the goal of the group to get Democrats together in a Republican area and mobilize voters.
Hoping to be as active in the primary and general election, Linsenmayer is prepared to come forward with volunteers and individuals committed to making his campaign work. Currently in the race are many other Democrats including Aaron Anthony, Tom Prigg, John Stolz, and Beth Tarasi.
Last year Linsenmayer challenged Rep. Hal English, a republican, in the 30th district. He was unable to continue through with the campaign because the state constitution requires a legislate to have been a PA resident for four years and Linsenmayer did not fill those requirements.
Coming forward as a more moderate Democrat, Linsenmayer hopes to be able to acquire the votes in Allegheny County.
PoliticsPA has reached out to Rothfus’ campaign for comment on this story.
