Lt. Gov.: Critz Cancels Media Buy

Former Congressman Mark Critz cancelled his media buy in the race for lieutenant governor, according to sources close to the campaign.

His campaign announced last week that they paid out exactly $182,675 for the air time, focusing most heavily on media outlets in Pittsburgh. He also planned for air time in the Wilkes Barre-Scranton area as well as in Johnstown and Altoona.

The ad buy was supposed to break down into a five day block that begins today and extends until May 12, and then a seven day block lasting from May 13 to May 19. The latter block was much larger, with $76,850 going to advertising in Pittsburgh alone.

The question became how Critz found the money to fund a television campaign. According to his last cycle financial report, Critz had less than $38,000 on hand to spend.

They also released an ad, and the 30-second spot features Critz in a classroom talking about Gov. Corbett’s record on education.

“Today, a good job comes from a good education,” Critz states. “So what does Tom Corbett do? Tom Corbett cut a billion dollars from education.”

“As Lieutenant Governor, I’ll work to invest in education,” he pledges. “But the first step in creating good jobs in Pennsylvania, is making sure Tom Corbett loses his.”

However, the ad won’t be seen on television in Pennsylvania and the Critz campaign did not respond to our request for comment on the cancellation.

  1. As someone is very opposed to both Critz and Stack I will be supporting Mark Smith. Although, between Critz and Stack the latter is preferable.

  2. Mr Critz is the choice of positive people. He is pro gun, pro life, pro traditional marriage, pro traditional gender roles, pro fracking and pro bank bailouts. No one has done more to support our Democratic President on his signature issues: seizing people’s papers and effects without a warrant, jailing people for petitioning their government for redress, detaining people indefinitely, and executing American citizens without an indictment let alone a trial of their peers. Mr Critz supported President Obama on drone strikes in Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq. He backs President Obama on arming Al Qaeda in Syria and financing the neo-fascists in Ukraine. Mr. Critz is the only candidate we can trust as Lt Gov to fight for the surveillance warfare state.

  3. He decided to save it for his Senate run, ha ha ha ha. #anybodybutcritz

  4. Smart, can you show what poll says he is 10-15% ahead (first of all no poll would actually say that cause they don’t give ranges), the last poll I see is from Feb and it has Jay Paterno leading and since he’s no longer in the race and since that was pretty long time ago I’d say that poll isn’t very reliable anymore.

He canceled his ad buy cause he doesn’t have the money for it, that’s the end of the story.

  5. If doesn’t and can’t handle or figure out his money why would we want him in charge of ours!
This guy has no idea what he’s doing and can’t get any support!
How could he possibly help the dems win in the fall?

  6. I’d like to announce that I’m spending $500,000 in independent expenditures in this race. I will release an ad shortly.

I also plan to cancel the buy tomorrow as I don’t have $500,000.
