May 6th Playbook

President Trump tweets out his support for state Rep. Fred Keller in the PA12 special election. Here is the Playbook.

May 3rd Ups & Downs: A state representative likens pipeline workers to Nazis, a state Senate hopeful shares a variety of offensive posts on his campaign’s social media accounts, a political consultant gets 5 years in federal prison for his role in a corruption scheme, and the campaign against a possible run from AG DePasquale has begun. All of that and more are in this week’s Ups and Downs.

Trump Tweets Support For Keller: On Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump sent out a tweet lauding state Rep. Fred Keller’s (R-Snyder) work in the state House and said he will do a great job if elected to Congress.

  1. What really amazes me is the relatively few political leaders involved in what is becoming the greatest economic problem for our economy–student loan debt. Elizabeth Warren to her credit is offering solutions but we have few others weighing in. Seth Frotman, of the Student Borrower Protection Center, weighs in saying that the fastest growing segment of student loan borrowers are older Americans. Frotman also notes that, “we don’t have a plan to either address the millions of borrowers who’ve taken on student loan debt or a plan to stop this.” The State Higher Education Executive Officers Annual Report says that student loan debt stands only behind mortgage debt as the second largest consumer debt in the US. Student Loan debt in the US now stands at 1.6 trillion. I look at my own borrowing from back in the day of $26,000 and in today’s dollars that would be around $60,000. How would I pay that back I ask myself? Why legislators are not taking testimony from respectable figures like Mr. Frotman is beyond me but it is clear there is a vacuum in political leadership on the rapidly expanding problem of student loan debt.

    1. Sam, I think you may find there to he an effort to address this issue by driving down costs of higher education. The Republicans are not too well versed in communication and have failed to convey this as on their agenda.

The debt that exists has been attempted to be addressed by a bill by Senator Hughes, offering refinancing.

But I do not disagree 9verall.

    1. And his “degenerate” colleague from the west, D-bag Daryl Metcalfe.
