Democrat Dan McCaffery defeated Republican Carolyn Carluccio for the open seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
The 59-year-old Superior Court judge has a six-percentage point lead or 182,000-vote lead over the president judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas.
The race was one of the most closely-watched in the country, as many perceived it as an indicator to the direction that the Keystone State could take in 2024.
“As the son of Irish immigrants who fled their home to escape sectarian violence and to make a better life for their children, tonight is truly remarkable,” said McCaffery in a statement. “My parents’ experience led me to a life of service in the military, as a prosecutor, as a Judge, and now as a Justice on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
“I’m humbled by the responsibility Pennsylvanians have entrusted in me and I intend to serve our Commonwealth and every community across Pennsylvania by defending our Constitution and ensuring our society is more fair, inclusive, and accepting. Thank you.”

This is how bad Election Day was for GOPers. In the strife-driven Pennridge School District in Bucks County, which has a solid GOP voter majority and an 8-1 GOP majority on the school board, all five Democrats running for seats won. The Democrats now control the school board 6-3.
Shout out to Chairman Sharif Street and his staff. What a wonderful job – all four Judicial Candidates won! When was the last time that happened? Thank you Chair Street and thank you to the voters of Pennsylvania!
