Two members of the Pennsylvania delegation in Congress – Sen. Dave McCormick and Rep. Summer Lee – traded barbs on what Lee said was the political right’s “true religion”
Lee, the Democratic U.S. representative from the 12th Congressional District that comprises parts of Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties, expressed her view on her personal account that “the true religion of the right is white supremacy and xenophobia.” She added that “none of their real values are from the life and teachings of the Christ of the Christian Bible.
It’s long been known that the true religion of the right is white supremacy and xenophobia.
None of their real values are from the life and teachings of the Christ of the Christian Bible…

McCormick, the newly-minted Republican U.S. Senator who makes a home in the Squirrel Hill district of Pittsburgh, fired back at the congresswoman, using his personal account to call out Lee’s past behavior.
None of us should take lectures from someone who has repeatedly demonstrated antisemitic behavior and is now condemning millions of her fellow citizens who simply want freedom, opportunity and secure borders. https://t.co/FS1AlAvAIh

Lee, a member of the Squad in Congress that includes with Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.), had a response for the state’s junior senator.
Senator, I’m condemning those who profess to follow the teachings of Christ but do not love their neighbor or do right unto the least of these. Is that you?
When he’s hungry, will you feed him or cut SNAP benefits? When he’s a stranger, will you invite him in or build a wall? https://t.co/PL5NGvZ102

Lee has also been critical of President Donald Trump’s recent flurry of executive orders.
“Trump’s executive orders scapegoat Black + brown communities while his billionaire donors profit off the polluted air, overcrowded detention centers, and prison labor these EOs create. Immigrants aren’t why your wages are low and costs are high – it’s the billionaires.”
