If at first you don’t succeed …
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick picked up the endorsement of Donald Trump during the former President’s campaign stop in the Lehigh Valley.
Two years ago during McCormick’s unsuccessful run for the GOP Senate nomination, Trump backed Mehmet Oz for the post over the former Bridgewater Associates hedge fund CEO.
“I am officially giving my endorsement to David McCormick tonight,” the former president said at the rally in Schnecksville. “He wants to run a good ship. He’s a smart guy, who was a very successful guy. He’s given up a lot to do this.”
After opting for Oz last cycle, Trump was more full-throated in his support of the GOP candidate in 2024.
“And I’ll tell you what, he’s the nominee of the Republican Party. David McCormick, go out and vote for him because Casey doesn’t do a damn thing,” Trump said as his supporters booed in reaction to Casey being brought up. “I tell you, he doesn’t do a thing. So go out and vote for him.”
McCormick was not present at the Saturday evening rally. A campaign spokesperson said that McCormick was at an event with his high school-age daughter.
The Republican challenger to Sen. Bob Casey Jr. acknowledged the endorsement via Twitter, though, within the hour.
Thank you, President Trump!
Together we will deliver a big win for Pennsylvania and America in November. https://t.co/MGn7HbwEuX

McCormick did not endorse Trump prior to the 45th president securing the Republican nomination. Once Nikki Halley suspended her campaign, the presumptive Pennsylvania GOP nominee threw his support behind Trump.
