Meehan Earns Backing of IATSE Local 8

Stagehands union is latest labor organization to endorse Pat Meehan for Congress

MEDIA, PA – At a news conference today, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 8 formally endorsed Pat Meehan for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District.  Also referred to as the Stagehands Union, IATSE has more than 1,000 members in the region and represents professional stagehands, motion picture technicians, and allied crafts.
 
According to their website, members of the IATSE work at the Academy of Music, Forrest Theatre, Walnut Street Theatre, Merriam Theatre, Tower Theater, Zellerbach Theater and other theaters throughout the region.  Stagehands also erect the scaffolding and install the stage equipment for concert venues including the Wells Fargo Complex, Mann Music Center and Sovereign Bank Center.
 
“Pat Meehan is going to stand up for the working people of this district in Washington, DC,” said Mike Barnes, Business Manager for IATSE Local 8.  “As District Attorney and U.S. Attorney, Meehan has demonstrated himself to be a man of integrity and character and we are proud to support his campaign for Congress.”
 
The IATSE Local 8 endorsement follows the high profile endorsement of Meehan last week by the United Aerospace Workers Local 1069, which represents union employees and retirees at Boeing’s Ridley facility.  UAW Local 1069 is one of the largest unions in the Congressional District with more than 1,800 current union workers and 1,400 retirees.
