Meehan for Congress Campaign Uncovers New Evidence of Lentz’s Per Diem Hypocrisy

DREXEL HILL, PA – Following a report in Sunday’s Delaware County Daily Times about why Bryan Lentz broke his promise not to take per diems, the Meehan for Congress campaign uncovered language from Lentz’s 2006 campaign website where he again pledged to not take per diems.

The archived material from Lentz’s 2006 state legislature campaign site says:
“On top of their already ample salary, state legislators receive a $128 per diem when the legislature is in session and a $650 a month car allowance…It’s time for these exorbitant perks to stop. This money could be much better spent on property tax relief, healthcare or education.” (Website archive, Bryan Lentz for State House)

And just four years later, Lentz said:
“What I said about the per diems was that there is a practice still ongoing in Harrisburg of legislators who go there five days a week simply to collect a per diem,” Lentz said. “… And I said I would not engage in that practice.”  (Danielle Lynch, “Seeking 7th Heaven: Lentz, Meehan in an epic battle for Congress,” The Delaware County Daily Times, October 24, 2010)

“The reality here is that Bryan Lentz is trying to rewrite history now that we’re eight days away from Election Day.  When Lentz was a candidate in 2006, he said he would not take per diems.  Plain and simple.  But as soon as he got sworn in on January 2, 2007, he submitted the paperwork to get the perk.  It was very clear he had no intention of keeping that promise.  He couldn’t be trusted then, and he can’t be trusted now,” said Bryan Kendro, campaign manager for Pat Meehan.
