Adams County President Judge Michael George is in.
The judge announced Tuesday that he will join the pack vying for one of the three openings on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
George was not expected to his declare candidacy so soon. The Adams County judge previously said he would run in the Republican primary if he received an endorsement from the party at its meeting Jan. 31. If not endorsed, he indicated he would back the party slate.
However, things are already looking promising for the Adams County judge. George led the GOP’s Central Caucus straw poll conducted this weekend.
“I believe Pennsylvanians are looking for fresh air in the political process,” George said in a statement announcing his candidacy. “In our highest Court, we deserve experienced, qualified and ethical representation which is free of the influence of special interests and historical power bases.
“We deserve public servants who will place the critical institution of the Court above their own interests and will work hard every day to make decisions for no other reason than they are the right decisions to make,” he continued. “My history and experience reflect a willingness and commitment to do so.”
George is currently serving his second 10-year term as a judge. He chairs the Adams County Criminal Justice Advisory Board, a position he has held since its beginning in 2007.
George joins fellow Republican candidates Superior Court Judge Cheryl Lynn Allen and Commonwealth Court Judge Renee Cohn Jubelirer, as well as Supreme Court Justice Correale Stevens, running for re-election. Stevens was appointed by Governor Tom Corbett to complete Joan Orie Melvin’s term, which ends in January 2016.
Superior Court Judge John Bender has also expressed interest in the race but has not declared. The Republican primary takes place May 19.

Can anyone tell me what previous jobs he had and his stand on voter id , state pensions, and taxing natural gas drillers. Thank you
Mike George is a corrupt individual who doesn’t deserve to sit on the Supreme Court in judgement. Read into this guys past, it’s very dark.
I agree with Bernard. Maybe he has a second job as a ventriloquist
After viewing his tv ad I kept wondering why he doesn’t move his mouth when he talks. I agree, this guy is goofy!
Please forward some of your marketing materials to me at 3 Glenfield Drive, Mechanisburg, PA 17050, Cumberland County.
Thanks
Looks like a goof!!
James, a lot of what you say has merit; however, I think George does have a shot at the Southeast Caucus tonight….a little birdy told me :). I also agree about the corruption. That’s politics for you!
It will be interesting to see if he truly drops out of the race if not endorsed….he shouldn’t. Although he won the Central Caucus straw poll, which he was expected to because of his people working “behind the scenes.” I don’t think he’ll win too many more. For example, the SE Caucus is today and they already picked their top three…George is NOT one of them. That’s right, they voted BEFORE the actual meeting!! George is a nice guy, but the GOP has selected their “endorsed” candidates. They definitely want Covey and Olsen(I don’t know why). The Caucuses are corrupt and filled with committee people who think they are more important than they are. Everybody should stay in the race and let the voters decide. Just my thoughts…

You keep leaving out Judge Anne Covey of the Commonwealth Court. Check your sources.
