Mike Barley Promoted to PA GOP Executive Director

With the departure of Executive Director Luke Bernstein for Governor Corbett’s staff, the PA GOP has named long-time Communications Director Mike Barley to the post.

It’s yet to be seen who will take over for Barley in the Press office, but current Deputy Communications Director Megan Sweeney has got to be strong contender. Sweeney has served as Deputy for years, and was named in December as one of PoliticsPA’s Rising Stars: Top 30 under 30.

From the release:

“Mike Barley has been an incredibly valuable member of our team during my chairmanship and I am confident he will do a great job moving the party forward as Executive Director,” Gleason said.  “Over the past two years we have achieved an unprecedented number of electoral successes, highlighted by the victories of U.S. Senator Pat Toomey, Governor Tom Corbett and Lt. Governor Jim Cawley, and I am confident that we have the team capable of building upon those victories during the 2011-12 cycle.”

Barley remarked, “It has been the greatest honor of my professional life to work for the Republican Party of Pennsylvania under Chairman Gleason and I am both humbled and excited to continue working to elect qualified Republican candidates in my new role.  I have inherited a great core staff of professionals and I know that together our team will execute Chairman Gleason’s vision to win elections and expand the reach of the Republican Party in our Commonwealth.”

Before being named Executive Director, Barley had served as the Director of the Communications and Technology Departments for the Republican Party of Pennsylvania.  In that capacity, Mike served as the primary spokesman and directed media relations for the Republican Party and countless statewide and local Republican candidates.  Mike is a native of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Millersville University. Mike currently resides in Palmyra, PA with his wife Krista and their two daughters Samantha and Peyton.
