Mike Kelly Ignores his Own History of Raising Property Taxes in “Contract with the Third District”
 
While you can take Mike Kelly out of the used car dealership, you can’t take the used car salesman out of Mike Kelly, and he is proving that point with his rhetoric on taxes that completely ignores his own record. The truth? Mike Kelly raised property taxes as a member of the city council in Butler, and voters shouldn’t take his “contract” seriously considering his history of tax hikes. 
 
“Considering property taxes in Butler are higher thanks to his work, Mike Kelly shouldn’t expect northwestern Pennsylvania to take his rhetoric seriously when it comes to taxes,” said Shripal Shah, Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  “Just like a stereotypical used car salesman, Kelly will say anything he thinks people want to hear.  That may work seling cars, but it proves that Mike Kelly is he kind of person who can’t be trusted in any capacity, let alone in Congress.” 
 
BACKGROUND:
 
·   In 2006, Mike Kelly voted to raise property taxes as a member of the Butler City Council.  In December 2006, Kelly and the Butler City Council approved a budget that increased property taxes by 1 mil.  The $7.1 million plan was adopted unanimously December 14th.  [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 12/24/06; Butler City Council Minutes, 12/14/2006]
