Morganelli Exploring AG Run

John-Morganelli-loresWith Attorney General Kathleen Kane dominating the headlines, John Morganelli was able to quietly float the idea of a fourth run for the office.

The Northampton County District Attorney is the first Democrat to openly explore a campaign for Kane’s seat in 2016, though it remains to be seen whether Kane will last in office until the next election cycle.

“I am currently Pennsylvania’s most senior district attorney and served as president of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association,” Morganelli told Steve Esack of the Morning Call. “No one – Democrat or Republican – has the breadth of my experience. So stay tuned.”

Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro and Allegheny County DA Stephen Zappala have been touted as possible Democratic replacements for Kane, while GOP State Sen. John Rafferty has declared his candidacy for the seat. Republican State Rep. Todd Stephens is also exploring a run.

Morganelli decided not to run for Lieutenant Governor in 2014 to focus on his responsibilities as Northampton County DA – a position he has held since 1992.

  1. I live in Northampton County and this place is a mess, the government center is a mess, the paperwork goes missing – John Morganelli is not a good choice

  2. Is he planning to run a full campaign against the Democrat next year, or is he hoping Wolf will appoint a Republican to that post if it becomes vacant?

  3. This guy is a jerk. Will run for anything and everything. No substance. Done a lot of good for Kandy Kane. Not.

  4. In the Morning Call article, Morganelli said “Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association”. Politics PA forgot the word District in their report.

Morganelli certainly does have chops to be Attorney General.

Shapiro has to run for something else. He’s reached his four your limit again of serving in one office before seeking another one. State Rep – County Commissioner – Attorney General

  5. Larry’s right. So what, Shapiro has a law degree. Just highlights how political an office AG is.

  6. “I am currently Pennsylvania’s most senior district attorney and served as president of the Pennsylvania Attorneys Association,” Morganelli told Steve Esack of the Morning Call. “No one – Democrat or Republican – has the breadth of my experience. So stay tuned.”

The Pennsylvania Attorneys Association doesn’t exist.

  7. Why would the Dems run Josh Shapiro for AG? He’s even less qualified than Kane. People are probably paying closer attention to qualifications now than they did when Kane ran.
