Morning Call: Pennsylvania Seeks Health Care Law Funding

Read more here.

Gov. Tom Corbett believes the Obama administration’s health reform law is unconstitutional, but that’s not stopping the state from asking the federal government for money to implement it.

State Insurance Commissioner Michael F. Consedine last week announced that the Insurance Department filed its application for about $33 million to complete planning and begin development and design of a health insurance exchange.

“The governor continues to believe that the law requiring the purchase of health insurance is unconstitutional,” Consedine said in a statement. “However, it would not be prudent to be caught unprepared. Therefore, we must implement a solution, if necessary, by developing a plan for Pennsylvanians should the U.S. Supreme Court not strike down the law.”

  1. You couldn’t be more right, Julian. Sam Rohrer is who I watched answer questions during a “Veterans and Patriots” forum held here in Pittsburgh back during the 2008 election season — against none other than Tom Corbett. While Rohrer answered questions on constitutional issues with discernment and knowledge, Corbett only gave off an air of uncertainty and apprehensiveness, as he answered one of the questions with, “Our Constitution is a living document…”. Right then and there, I knew that he should not be in the position of Governor of Pennsylvania. Needless to say, it doesn’t surprise me that he and every other non-tea party politician in this country (nonetheless, the State of PA), feels that they are in their positions to “change” or “transform” our country and / or our Constitution. Not to mention, sadly.

  2. There has to come a time when the people get it together and make change. It’s time to go to work. Sam Rohrer is running for U.S. Senate and is the only chance we have at beating Casey. The others are laughable against him. The People want a Constitutional conservative–not some variation of Democrat. Will be interesting to watch how the people handle this race.

  3. Why would anyone be surprised at this action from the man who endorsed Obama supporter Steve Welch as our senatorial nominee.

  4. The governor has taken an oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Commonwealth.

Where does prudent come in to play? He is knowingly violating his sworn oath.

  5. and to think I thought the person who told me about this Saturday was a conspiracy theorist…
