MoveOn Launches Poll for PA-13 Endorsement

moveonMoveOn, a progressive advocacy group, is holding a poll to see who is the best Democratic candidate to support in Pa.’s 13th congressional district race.

The winner of the poll will receive the group’s endorsement.

The poll will run until 6 p.m. tonight and participants must be MoveOn members who live in Pennsylvania’s 13th district.

After Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz stepped down from the seat to pursue a run for governor, the race has become highly contested. Candidates include Former Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies, State Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Philadelphia), physician Val Arkoosh and State Sen. Daylin Leach.

The support of MoveOn could be very influential for any of the candidates, considering the group’s clout amongst progressives across the country.

Marjorie Margolies is looking to regain a seat in Congress after serving from 1993 to 1995; both Daylin Leach and Brandon Boyle are hoping to take the step from the state to the national level; and Val Arkoosh is a first-time political candidate with a sizeable amount of money on hand.

An internal poll taken last August had Margolies as the leader by a large margin, but most of that support is likely due to name recognition and the race has evolved since the summer.

Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz leaves her seat as extremely popular, with an approval rating as high as 73%.

  1. Can we dispense with the word progressive already! It is becoming so boring!
What person would vote for someone who does not live in his or her district? A progressive? Let candidates discuss the issues regarding middle class working Americans of which I am one!

  2. This declaration makes the decision an easy one. Any candidate MoveOn.org opposes is the one who will get my support.

  3. Any PA resident can run for any congressional district, regardless of where they live.

For 2012, PA GOP redrew 6th district to put Trevedi’s house just outside of it so they could say he didn’t live in the district.

  4. Soooooo, does this mean Daylin and Marj can’t even vote for themselves in this poll, since they don’t live in the district? And why is someone who doesn’t live in the district allowed to run in it?

  5. If no one reaches 50% threshold, there won’t be an endorsement.

They are asking for name/email/street-address to limit respondents to the 13th Cong Dist.

But, without an endorsement, will the highest vote-getter ACT like he/she got endorsed by MoveOn?

And if so, would MoveOn retaliate against a candidate attempting to take advantage of poll to self-promote?
