He may not be the top challenger in PA, but Manan Trivedi remains the darling of national progressives. This week he scored an endorsement from MoveOn.org in his bid to unseat Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-Chester).
According to a press release, members of the left-leaning website approved Trivedi’s endorsement with a 96 percent approval vote. The website cited Trivedi’s record as a battalion surgeon in Iraq as well as his professional record helping low income patients as reasons Trivedi can “take the fight for the American Dream to the U.S. House.”
“Manan Trivedi is a hometown hero in the district that contains the poorest city in America,” said Daniel Mintz, MoveOn’s national director of coordinated campaigns. “Trivedi is a fighter for the 99 percent and the residents of this newly drawn district need the real leadership Dr. Trivedi would provide, not more of the tea party bluster his opponent offers.”
It’s Trivedi’s second endorsement by a national liberal website. Daily Kos unveiled support for Trivedi in July. He said he was pleased, citing MoveOn.org’s mission as a positive mark for his campaign.
“The only true way for a democracy to succeed is by providing for an inclusionary process,” said Trivedi. “And it is because of that guiding principle within the MoveOn.org mission that I am pleased to have received their endorsement. Every day we must fight together in order to keep government open and transparent for all Americans.”
However, while the site may offer Trivedi more opportunities to raise money, it also brings some baggage. The group has a history of incendiary statements, as Gerlach campaign Senior Adviser Vince Galko said.
“MoveOn is a radical left wing organization whose members in the past were scolded by the likes of the Anti-Defamation League and the Catholic League for their hateful rhetoric, and smeared four star General David Petraeus that received widespread criticism from the highest levels of the Democratic Party,” he said.
“Clearly, Trivedi has found a home among the most extreme fringes of the Democratic Party and will do anything to get elected.”

I don’t think that MoveOn or Trivedi implied that Gerlach was the reason Reading is poor.
Reading is supposedly the poorest city in America (there’s another article about it: https://www.politicspa.com/reading-america%E2%80%99s-poorest-city/28813/). But it’s hardly of Gerlach’s doing. The two factors that were cited in the article were that Reading has a large Hispanic immigrant population and poor pre-college education (which is a state issue, not a federal one).
The poorest city in America is in the 6th Congressional District?
There ya go again with the radical tag.
Be reminded, our founders were radicals.
