Muroff Exits PA-5 Primary

Democrat Dan Muroff announced he is dropping out of the primary for the 5th Congressional district.

“After much consideration, and after talking with my wife Melissa, who has supported me unconditionally in my efforts, I have decided to end my candidacy. I concluded that in seeing no clear path to win the nomination it would be irresponsible and unfair to ask all those who have supported me to continue to do so,” Muroff said.

Muroff did not put his support behind any candidate in the Democratic primary, though he does say he will continue to support progressive candidates.

“I have deep gratitude and great appreciation to my friends and supporters.  While this effort did not end the way I would have hoped, I plan to remain active in supporting progressive candidates and causes and fighting for our shared values,” Muroff said.

Muroff’s announcement leaves Greg Vitali, Rich Lazer Mary Scanlon, Molly Sheehan, Lawrence Arata, David Wertime, Thaddeus Kirkland, Margo Davidson, Ashley Lunkenheimer, Theresa Wright, and Lindy Li in the race.

  1. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE WASTE OTHER PEOPLES TIME WORKING TO GET THAT PERSON ON THE BALLOT THEN DROP OUT . DAN YOU ARE A LOSER BEFORE YOU EVEN GOT OUT OF THE GATE BY DROPPING OUT !

    1. Did somebody give him enough money to continue the fight all the way to November? You didn’t? Did you ensure that he had enough votes by petition signatures to win the primary? No? It might be a very smart move for 2018. Too many better known people are running for this primary. He will have time to get out there to the whole 5th Congressional District in the next 2 years. If you truly believed in him as a candidate you would not say these things in public much less put them in writing.

  2. bad choice Dan Muroff maybe I will not support you in a future state senate or a state representative race in 2020 as a example.

  3. True class act. And someone who can get things done. Hope he doesn’t give up on Del Co politics.

  4. Wait, if he was in the #2 ballot position, why did he drop out? With this splintered field, even just 30% could win the primary. And the winner of the primary wins the general in this new 5th. Dan is a good guy who has worked for years. Why drop out now?

    1. With a field this large, Wright’s #1 ballot position would draw votes away from his #2 position.

This race will be won with a lot under 30% for the top vote-getter. 15%-20% will probably win it.

  5. With so many candidates running in primary, there may be no clear cut winner, thus leaving way for a republican to win in November.

  6. Too bad we don’t have the system where we could send 2 or 3 to Congress to represent us and our values. Dan Muroff’s attitudes toward and EXPERIENCE with gun control & environmental issues are precisely what’s needed in the House. Other candidates for the Dem nomination in PA-5: Take Heed!

  7. And yet a complete, low-class sleazebag like Margo Davidson is STILL in the race? What a mockery of democracy… Go ahead and Google Margo Davidson – Delco Trash.

    1. revresbo-

Margo is in the last ballot position. Her dropping out wouldn’t change/advance anyone in ballot order. Dan’s position at #2 would have drawn votes, and now Vitali moves from #3 to #2 slot.

Despite not having enough valid signatures, Wright managed to dodge being served, and got the challenge against her dismissed, so she’s at the first ballot position.

  9. Dan is a fine man, and well qualified to be our next US Congressman. The fact that he stepped down shows that he cares enough about this race to make it feasible for one candidate to gain the support to win. Thank you Dan! You will be missed.

    1. As long as Rich Lazer is not the candidate, this will be an easy Republican win. If Rich Lazer IS the candidate, it gets even easier. Even the democrats in Delaware County know how awful it would be to have Philadelphia Politics controlling Delaware County.

  10. Correction: Badey is out of the race

He is not only “out”, he filed papers that were approved by the commonwealth court to remove his name from the ballot or signs to notify voters that he was no longer on the ballot.
