…Underscoring the hostile environment for Democrats are the leads that Republican gubernatorial candidates Scott Walker in Wisconsin and Tom Corbett in Pennsylvania have built in two Democratic-leaning states. In two other Democratic strongholds, Democratic governors Deval Patrick of Massachusetts and Pat Quinn of Illinois are fighting for their political lives. In Oregon, a state where President Obama racked up 57 percent of the vote two years ago, Republican political newcomer (and former National Basketball Association star) Chris Dudley has made it a jump-ball contest with Democratic former Gov. John Kitzhaber.
