Shaughnessy Naughton, a Democratic candidate in the Eighth Congressional District, received the support of the Women’s Campaign Fund and the Women Under Forty PAC. Each of the national groups back women rights candidates across all levels of government.
“I’m proud to have the endorsements of these two influential organizations dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of women in elected office,” she said. “ I have been horrified by the political battle raging in Washington, D.C. over basic health care and the economic needs of women and families. It’s dumbfounding to watch Congress continually try to turn back the clock on women’s rights or say ‘no’ to common sense economic policies like equal pay for equal work.”
These are the first major endorsements for the Philadelphia-area entrepreneur. She has, however, not yet been able to score an endorsement from the nation’s most prominent women’s group EMILY’s List.
Naughton is competing against former US Army Ranger and CIA officer Kevin Strouse in the Democratic primary. Strouse has already received the backing of VoteVets, Nancy Pelosi and the DCCC.
Each candidate hopes to defeat incumbent Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) next November.
