One Day, One Broken Promise From Tom Corbett

In Campaign Ad, On “Day One” Corbett Promised to Hand Harrisburg His Reform Plan, Had Brunch Instead

Harrisburg, PA – In one of Tom Corbett’s campaign ads, he promised to hand Harrisburg his reform plan on “day one.” Instead, Tom Corbett entertained friends and toured the Governor’s mansion. Already, Tom Corbett’s campaign rhetoric is not matching his actions as Governor. Just two days into Corbett’s Administration, we already have a record of broken promises. This is just the most recent example of Tom Corbett’s politics as usual approach. Tom Corbett gave several major donors jobs in his Cabinet, and his transition team was stacked with donors and lobbyists for corporate special interests.

“Tom Corbett has only been in office for two days, but he has already broken a key campaign promise that he featured in a campaign ad,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman Jim Burn. “Tom Corbett’s transition, and his early tenure as Governor has been politics as usual at its worst – favors for top donors and broken campaign promises. This leaves Pennsylvanians with a serious question, if Tom Corbett is willing to break a campaign promise on the first day of his Administration, how many other campaign promises will Tom Corbett break?”

TRANSCRIPT: “I’m ready to go to work. Day one, I’m handing Harrisburg my reform plan. It ends the perks and special privileges. Then I’m going to work on cutting the wasteful spending, like the ridiculous 17,000 state cars. And my jobs plan starts by cutting job-killing taxes and reducing government red tape. This will show the world Pennsylvania once again is open for business. With hard work, we can turn Pennsylvania around. And I hope you’ll give me the opportunity to do exactly that.”

Mr. Corbett’s first day (Morning Call) Gov. Tom Corbett spent his first day on the job getting to know the people, places and particulars of his new reality.  The Allegheny County Republican entertained family and friends at the executive residence along the banks of the Susquehanna River on Wednesday morning, serving them brunch and showing them around the sprawling Georgian mansion he and his wife, Susan, will call home for the next four years.
