Orie Trial Update: Appeal Rejected

By Nicole Houck, Contributing Writer

Judge Jeffrey Manning had declared a mistrial in the case of State Senator Jane Orie after coming under the belief that the defense had forged documents. Orie’s attorneys had appealed that decision, arguing that the jury was leaning toward acquittal and the prosecution was on the verge of losing their case.

Today, the PA Superior Court rejected that appeal, meaning that Orie’s retrial will continue as planned.

State Senator Jane Orie’s second trial is scheduled to move forward on time despite attempts to dismiss the case. Judge Manning overruled Orie’s attempt to have her corruption case dismissed on the grounds of double jeopardy on Tuesday. Manning also overruled Orie’s attempt to have him removed from the case.
