Oz Declares Himself Presumptive GOP Candidate

Last Friday, Mehmet Oz released a video message to Pennsylvanians in which he declared himself to “have earned the presumptive Republican nomination for the United States Senate.”

In the 75-second video, he stated that “This was a tough campaign, I traveled everywhere. You guys were pretty honest sharing with me thoughts, worries you had, you don’t feel like you’re being heard. You want to make sure that the person you elect will stand up for what you believe is important.”

Oz holds a 902-vote lead over opponent Dave McCormick entering the recount phase of the GOP primary.

For its part, the McCormick campaign pointed to a statement released on Twitter that read, “We are proud our campaign received 418,000 votes, won 37 of 67 counties, and contributed to a historic turnout with a razor thin difference between myself and Mehmet Oz. This narrow difference triggers an automatic recount, and we look forward to a swift resolution so our party can unite to defeat socialist John Fetterman in the fall.”

The McCormick campaign appealed to the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania in an attempt to have “undated” mail-in ballots that were received prior to 8 PM on Election Day counted. These ballots were signed by the voter who did not put a date on the return envelope.

County election offices typically put a time/date stamp on each piece of mail that is received by their offices.
