PA-10: Scott Brion To Run Against Rep. Marino

Today, businessman Scott Brion announced that he will be seeking the Democratic nomination for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th District.

“Rural Pennsylvania has a long history of hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. I’m running for Congress because Pennsylvanians deserve a leader who will use those qualities to bring people together and achieve results benefiting the 10th District,” he said.

Brion is running against incumbent Rep. Tom Marino (R-Lycoming), who has held the seat since 2011. Brion said that Marino’s votes for the federal government shutdown, the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act, and his repeated siding with partisan extremists prove that, “Congressman Marino is out of touch with what rural Pennsylvanians are all about.”

The 10th District is one of the biggest in the state and encompasses 15 mostly rural counties, including Bradford, Lackawanna, Lycoming, Juniata, Mifflin, Monroe, Northumberland, Perry, Pike, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna,Tioga, Union, and Wayne.

“Our country was built by people eager to seize opportunity, and my story is proof that America continues to provide opportunity for those who work hard. In Congress, I will help build opportunities for others willing to work hard for a good-paying job and an affordable college education. And I will fight to keep the promise made to America’s seniors – like my own parents – that if they worked hard they deserve a secure retirement.”

Despite his confidence and promising history, Brion may have a tough time ahead of him as a Democrat. The Cook PVI rated Pennsylvania’s 10th District R+12, meaning the area is nestled quite comfortably to the right of the party spectrum.

Scott attended The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania on scholarships and was able to pay his way through college by bailing hay and harvesting bark in those same ancestral fields and forests.

He founded Tioga Resources, a company investing in oil and gas assets in the Marcellus Shale region. Brion is an advocate for responsible gas development, environmental stewardship, and the property rights of all Pennsylvanians.

Brion currently lives with his wife Bibi near Liberty, PA, and they are expecting the birth of their first child this month.

  1. Don’t be fooled by “Republican” and “Democrat” lables, look at how the candidates stand on each issue. Brion is the best of both worlds: Savvy business leader that really cares about people. You guys that call him a “Blue Dog” are way off. Brion is a quality person that can really make things better if we give him a chance to lead us. I met Marino, what an arrogant jerk. What has he done over the last 3 years?

  2. What other Democrats have stepped up?? I would like specifics on his ties to the Marcellus Shale Industries? I agree, Marino must go, but we need to chose wisely. We need to stop Privatization, create industry, strengthen our schools, invest in our crumbling infra-structure, roll back toll hikes, reform the Turnpike Authority and get back to the great state we all love. I am ready to volunteer, but bring me a worthy person!!

  3. Not another Blue Dog, please! Pennsylvania is the state that drove the Confederate Army back to VA,and paid a massive price in lives. Seeing Tom Corbett on the upper right doesn’t bode well for getting back to being a true blue state. We are the birthplace of our Republic, our Constitution & the Dec of Independence. Don’t let this great land be defiled for a minute longer under the weight of half-blue and dead-red incompetent bullies. We are being privatized, piece by piece, school by school, prison by prison, city by city. The end goal is theonomy. The means is “7 Mountains Dominionism”. And it’s working. Proponents: Sen Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Sen Ted Cruz…. Need I say more?.

  4. At the Democrat State Committee meeting on this past Saturday we had a at the Northeast Caucus meeting I Chris Musti Northeast Democratic Caucus Secretary, and Democrat State Committeeman – Representing Lackawanna County formally endorsed Scott Brion candidate for PA – 10 Congressman. I would like to ask all of my supporters in PA – 10 district in Lackawanna County to work with me to elect Scott Brion.
