The Allegheny County Labor Council endorsed businesswoman and health care professional Erin McClelland in the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional district.
The group is the local branch of the AFL-CIO and represents the collective interest of its affiliated unions and the working people of Allegheny County. Their vote to endorse McClelland was unanimous.
“It is such a huge honor be entrusted by the men and women of the Allegheny County Labor Council with the charge of leading the fight for the American middle class,” McClelland said. “Though I’ve never personally held a union card, I proudly identify as one of ‘Labor’s children’- a generation that hugely benefited from the hard-fought victories of organized labor. The union wages my parents earned put me through college and gave me the opportunity to start my own health care organization.
“I’m running for Congress because I stand with the brothers and sisters of organized labor in their fight to make sure every American has that same opportunity to climb the economic ladder that leads to prosperity.”
This is her third union endorsement this week, she received the endorsement of the United Steelworkers Local 1196 and also earned the backing of the IBEW 29 on Tuesday.
McClelland is currently competing against John Hugya, former Rep. John Murtha’s Chief of Staff and a Korean War veteran, for the Democratic nomination in the 12th district.

After she wins most or all of the county endorsements, this race will be over.
In the case of McClelland, I fear, the blue eyes are as good as it gets. After that there isn’t much except a scattering of Democratic talking points left over from the Mondale-Ferraro campaign.
Oh yeah let’s vote for her and Kathleen Kane just because they’re good-looking. That isn’t sexist at all.
Hey, I would endorse those amazing blue eyes any time! Good choice by the union guys.
