PA-13: EMILY’s List and NARAL Join Together to Take Down Boyle

State Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Philadelphia) has been adamant about his record on supporting women’s issues, unfortunately for the candidate, the nation’s biggest women’s organizations apparently don’t believe him.

According to Laura Bassett and Ryan Grim of the Huffington Post, EMILY’s List and NARAL are teaming up for the first time ever to take on the State Rep. and PA-13 Democratic candidate.

The groups have already created a mail piece on Boyle that portrays him as someone who is “two-faced” and “can’t be trusted to protect a woman’s right to choose”.

Bassett and Grim also reported that according to two of their sources the groups are planning to spend six figures in the primary, which is just twelve days away.

For his part, Boyle has repeatedly asserted during the campaign, including in an interview with PoliticsPA, that he supports Roe v. Wade.

Nonetheless, all three of his opponents have attacked him on this issue. Margolies and Arkoosh have sent out direct mail pieces hitting Boyle while Leach released a TV ad last week.

Bassett and Grim, as well as PoliticsPA and Chris Brennan of the Daily News, believe these persistent attacks may be signs that Boyle’s campaign is surging.

“The focus on Boyle by Leach, Arkoosh and Margolies indicates that his rivals see him as the frontrunner as the primary approaches, in a stark reversal from the start of the race,” they conclude.

  1. C’mon PA-13 Dems! Which one of you is serious enough about abortion rights to do a campaign ad embracing Kermit Gosnell?

Daylin Leach, this sounds like a job for you.

  2. My guess is that tracking polls have prompted this desperation-move, for it’s overtly incorrect.

  3. Sad to see the Dems fighting over who is the most radical on abortion. Hopefully the voters in PA-13 dont fall for these clowns.

  4. So Boyle supports Roe v. Wade, that’s nice. The entire strategy of anti-choicers has been to restrict *access* rather than go after the law, and that is exactly what Boyle has helped them do.

  5. Boyle may be “adamant,” but his voting record speaks for itself. Time and again, Boyle has chosen to intrude between a woman and her doctor. And now he lies about what he’s done, which is the most damning element of this situation. Own it, Brennie Boy – you did it. He should get ZERO Democratic women’s votes, and that’s what the other three candidates are after – no “surge” perceived or feared. Just a large chunk of votes that are there for the taking. Boyle is the candidate of the Old White Male Catholic voter (h/t to Bobby Brady and Johnny Doc), and there ain’t enough of them in any ward to win anything, even in a four-way primary.
