PA-15: Dent Plans on Skipping the Republican National Convention

Charlie DentCount Rep. Charlie Dent out.

According to Karen Shuey of the Reading Eagle, Rep. Dent will not be attending the GOP Convention where Donald Trump is expected to be officially declared the Republican nominee for President.

A spokesman for Dent said that he would only go to Cleveland if it were an open convention. Rep. Dent has also not endorsed Trump, though he has stated that he will never vote for presumptive Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton.

Dent is joining what is becoming an increasing long list of top GOP officials who are planning on skipping the convention. There are potentially several PA Republicans on that list as well.

Congressman Ryan Costello revealed that he was not be going to the convention last week, after he resigned as a delegate.

Rep. Patrick Meehan has not committed to going to the convention, only saying that his travel plans for that week are still being finalized. Senator Toomey has also remained uncommitted as to whether he will be going to the convention or not.

Pennsylvania Republicans are not the only ones who have stated that they will not go to the convention. In fact, an article from Alex Isenstadt of Politico today found that Trump may have trouble filling up speaking slots at the convention, as Republicans look to avoid direct ties to the presumptive nominee.

The 15th Congressional District includes the Lehigh Valley and stretches from the eastern suburbs of Harrisburg to the New Jersey border.

  1. Dent represents the very worst in our politics- to call him a political whore is not fair to the ladies. He should be defeated because he stands for nothing but an elite republican establishment that shames our Nation and the Reagan legacy.
    Dent stinks!

  2. Your either for Trump or your for Clinton. Its one or the other folks. As for Rep Dent, We will make sure you pay for this in your next election. Maybe you should become a Democrat Now, so you get a head start on your next election.

  3. Who cares if he won’t be in Cleveland. The important matter is that he not be in Washington,DC come January.
