PA-16: Smucker Takes GOP Nomination

SmuckerState Sen. Lloyd Smucker saw off a primary challenge from his second cousin to win the Republican Party’s nomination to replace ten-term Congressman Joe Pitts.

Smucker picked up over 55% of the vote, beating Chet Beiler by 10 points.

He will face Democrat Christina Hartman in November. Though the district has voted red for the last two decades, the peculiar state of politics this year could make this an interesting race.

The 16th Congressional District includes parts of Berks, Chester and Lancaster County, as well as the city of Reading.

  1. The most ridiculous TV adv. in this campaign was Beiler’s attempt to tie Smucker to President Obama’s agenda.

  2. I want to say congrats to you Lloyd Smucker is to be the Republican Nominee for congress, and I will continue supporting you for the general election as well, and you will have a probably a easy race is to win this seat in congress.
