Well, this wasn’t exactly what he was hoping for but you can’t really get picky.
After receiving the support of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Matt Cartwright thought he was going to be chosen for the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.
The caucus, however, rejected his appointment.
Instead Rep. Cartwright was appointed to the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
“One door closes and another one opens,” the Congressman told Laura Olson of the Morning Call.
“I am honored to accept this appointment to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. Listening to the needs of working Americans and figuring out how to connect with them on our policy agenda is critical work for the Democrats, and I intend to engage in that endeavor at every opportunity,” said Rep. Cartwright. “During the 115th Congress, I plan on looking for ways to help guide our Caucus towards the right policies coupled with effective messaging.”
“The 17th Congressional District is a working class district with challenges similar to those of many other areas of the Northeast and Midwest,” Cartwright continued. “I’m looking forward to bringing our northeastern Pennsylvania perspectives and values to this important committee.”
The 17th Congressional District represents parts of Carbon, Monroe, Northampton, Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties as well as the entirety of Schuylkill County.

Cartwright should be able to help the Democrats with some much-needed reality checks from what most of them still dismiss as “flyover country”. Problem is, will they listen to him aor anyone else with a message from middle America?
Which committee is responsible for policy? Sound like a bunch of b.s. titles for the committees.
Congressman Cartwright has the skill, knowledge and experience to be a valuable addition and contributor to the Steering and Policy Committee. He will serve on the Committee effectively.
Steering is appropriate for an old ambulance chaser.
