PA-17: Pelosi Names Cartwright to Policy Committee

matt-cartwrightCongressman Matt Cartwright is getting a new responsibility.

According to Heather Caygle of Politico, the PA Democrat is one of the three Congressmen who will lead the Democratic Policy and Communication Committee.

These appointments are part of an effort by Nancy Pelosi to elevate younger members and diffuse the challenge to her leadership of the Democratic Caucus.

Apparently one of the top priorities of the group will be to “protect Medicare” amidst discussion of Speaker Ryan’s efforts to fundamentally change the program.

Just a few months ago, Rep. Cartwright was named to the influential Appropriations Committee.

The 17th Congressional District represents parts of Carbon, Monroe, Northampton, Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties as well as the entirety of Schuylkill County.
