Pennsylvania elected three new members to their congressional delegation a week ago.
Just one, however, is taking office now.
Thanks to Chaka Fattah’s criminal convictions and resignation, the PA-2 seat needs to be filled as soon as possible. As a result, Dwight Evans was officially sworn into office last night.
While seemingly inconsequential, an extra month and a half of seniority could end up helping Evans get better committee assignments.
Regardless, his elevation to Congress is the culmination of a career that began in the PA State House in 1981.
The 2nd Congressional District consists of parts of Northwest Philadelphia, as well as Southwestern Montgomery County.

Awesome article with incredible idea!Thank you for such an important article. I truly acknowledge for this awesome data.. Single Forever
Dwight is partisan when he has to be, and not very often, but there are few Democrats who can work across the aisle as well as he can. He is friendly and open, and is a deal-maker. He has had great success in Harrisburg working in a Republican House, and with a Republican Senate, and with Republican Governors. He is the right guy (perhaps at the wrong time) to be in Washington now. Democratic leaders and their union buddies have tried to take him out before, and have failed. Unlike Boyle and Brady, who are owned by the unions (read Johnny Doc), he gets the job done.
He’s going to continue the fight for the “disenfranchised” ,ya da ya da ya da…ummm Dwight, you’ve been in power for the last 30 years, nothing has changed for your constituents.
Smart to take office early. Just jumped 59 new members in seniority!!!!
Finally a winner among the Dems. Good luck, Dwight. You will need it with all the GOP bozos in Congress. But you are used to being a minority.
