PA-2: Fattah Alleges DOJ Misconduct

Chaka-FattahCongressman Chaka Fattah is beginning to set up his legal defense to charges brought against him last month.

Fattah has been charged with 29 counts of racketeering, bribery and other related crimes, after a Department of Justice investigation found “Congressman Fattah and his associates embarked on a wide-ranging conspiracy … to advance their own personal interests.”

In a letter to the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees today, Fattah requested congressional action to ensure there was no prosecutorial misconduct in the case against him.

“Legal experts following the case are deeply troubled that some in the Department of Justice may have potentially blurred the lines of the separation of powers, engaged in tactics with the intention to influence a political process, and performed other documented examples of misconduct,” Fattah wrote, before asking the Committees to preserve all DoJ materials involved in his case, including emails, letters, phone records and financial records.

The ten-term Congressman also requested a full congressional review of all the materials collected from the DoJ when his criminal trial is over.

“It is no secret that for decades, appropriators in both the House and Senate have been the target of unconstitutional and illegal investigations,” Fattah wrote.

  1. Who are these “legal experts” that are deeply troubled by the DOJ’s actions? Could they possibly be Fattah, his Attorneys, family, and co-indictees in this case? 8 years, 85 pages, and 29 counts along with the 2 aides who have already pled guilty, seems like a pretty solid case…anybody got a fork?

  2. Fattah seems to be taking the enemy (house GOP) of my enemy (DOJ) is sometimes my friend.

Would the GOP help a Dem like Fattah just to hurt the DOJ?

They’ve got nothing to lose, since the seat goes to a Dem whether Fattah stays or leave.
