Governor Tom Wolf has formally set the special election to fill Chaka Fattah’s congressional seat.
Turns out the special election will happen the same day as the general election, November 8th. Additionally, the Democratic and Republican nominees will be the same.
This was done to save time and effort. State Rep. Dwight Evans is heavily favored to win, so this arrangement allows him to get to Washington earlier and prevents the candidates from having to run two races in one year (three if you count the primary). The state also wouldn’t have to waste money on an election where the results are almost preordained.
“I am committed to moving us forward and being the best Congressman I can be,” Evans said. “Now, more than ever, we need Washington to focus on revitalizing urban neighborhoods and building stronger communities through investment in infrastructure, better public schools, and a commitment to all people.”
The 2nd Congressional District consists of parts of Northwest Philadelphia, as well as Southwestern Montgomery County.

I will also support Dwight Evans in the special election as well.
