PA-2: UFCW Local 1776 Endorses Evans

Evans-UFCWDwight Evans won his first labor endorsement for his congressional campaign today.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 announced that they’re backing Evans.

“Dwight has been an advocate for the members of our Local during his time in Harrisburg,” stated UFCW 1776 President Wendell Young IV. “I can’t imagine a better representative of the second Congressional District then Dwight Evans. He not only embodies the values of our union, but is the right candidate to go to bat in Washington D.C. for the communities in Philadelphia he works with day in and day out.”

“I would like to thank Wendell Young, the executive board and the thousands of UFCW 1776 members for their endorsement of my congressional campaign today,” said Evans. “Together, we have worked hard to bring jobs and fresh, healthy foods to the city of Philadelphia through the Fresh Food Initiative. I greatly appreciate their support and together we will continue to fight block by block to revitalize urban America.”

Evans is running to take the seat of indicted incumbent Congressman Chaka Fattah. Other candidates include Lower Merion Township Commissioner Brian Gordon, State Rep. Brian Sims and Ninth Ward Leader Dan Muroff.

The 2nd district consists of parts of Northwest Philadelphia as well as Southwestern Montgomery County.

  1. Martin Scorsese called. He wants Wendell to come in to play some throwback 1960’s cliche Italian goodfellahs extra.
