Members of Congress never stop being candidates and they especially never stop being fundraisers.
That goes double if they represent a swing seat.
Rep. Costello disagreed with this assessment when I interviewed him earlier this month but his healthy financial totals suggest he knows their importance.
In the second fundraiser quarter, from April 1st to June 30th, Costello brought in $423,579. That is a major improvement from the $217K he raised in 2015’s first quarter.
He also has $582,764 cash on hand at the moment. That’s more than double the $250,000 COH he reported in April.
“Congressman Costello is grateful for the strong support he has received,” said Vince Galko, Senior Adviser to Congressman Costello’s campaign. “He will continue to work hard to represent the citizens of the Sixth Congressional District. These solid fundraising numbers put us in an excellent position heading into the reelect.”
In the last few months, the Republican incumbent has seen two potential opponents emerge. Mike Parrish entered the Democratic primary and Joe Denham is also “seriously considering” a run and filed paperwork with the FEC.
The Cook Political Report rates the seat R+2 and it is currently considered “Likely Republican”.
The 6th district consists of parts of Berks, Chester, Lebanon and Montgomery Counties.
