Rep. Mark Rozzi (D-Berks) announced today that he will form an exploratory committee for a run in Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District.
The exploratory committee will allow Rozzi to begin fundraising and laying the groundwork for a possible run.
“Congressman Gerlach’s retirement will leave a huge void in Washington,” said Rozzi, “I want to continue my work serving the residents of Berks County and improve the lives of all the residents of the 6th district as their representative on Capitol Hill.”
He was elected in 2012 and serves on the Agricultural & Rural Affairs, Gaming Oversight, Policy, Tourism & Recreational Development Committees and serves as the Democratic Secretary of the Children & Youth Committee.
Rozzi was one of the only Democrats endorsed by the Pennsylvania Business Council’s PAC, PEGPAC, when he ran for the state legislature. He’s already gathered support in the area for his run in PA-6.
“Mark Rozzi has been a strong voice for working families in Berks County and we are confident he will continue to do so as a United States Congressman,” stated Melvin Fishburn, President of IBEW Local 743 and President of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Reading and Vicinity. “We need somebody in Congress who is going to fight to save the middle class, and Mark is that person.”
Adrian Shanker, former President of Equality PA added, “Mark Rozzi has been a great supporter of the LGBT community during his time in Harrisburg. We need our Congressional representatives working every day toward a more equal America and I am confident that Representative Rozzi will be that leader.”
Rozzi lives in the district, but only 35.9% of his Democratic constituents are PA-6 residents. He’s also already endorsed Allyson Schwartz in her campaign for governor, which may be a factor in the primary for this congressional seat.
He would face Mike Parrish in the Democratic primary. Other Democrats considering a bid for the seat are physician and former candidate Manan Trivedi, State Senator Judy Schwank and New Democratic Coalition spokesman Phil LaRue.

Gee Mark, we hardly got to know ya, but good luck. Does this mean that if you decide to run for Congress, that you will not be running in the 126th?

@jmg, your link doesn’t even make a pay-to-play accusation. The letter to the editor states that Remington & Vernic had business before Willistown Township but MacQueen didn’t even vote on the contract. Furthermore, the letter itself disclaims any connection to the Controller’s Office: “[a]s far as I can see, there would be no connection of Remington & Vernick to the Controller’s office…” A campaign contribution is not ipso facto pay-to-play. There needs to be causation of some government act, such as a vote in favor of the contract. There is no such allegation. Please keep the libel to what lies beneath your tinfoiled hat.
