PA-6: Sabato’s Crystal Ball Moves Race from “Likely Republican” to “Safe Republican”

CostelloDemocratic nominee Manan Trivedi got another piece of tough news today.

Larry Sabato and Kyle Kondik of Sabato’s Crystal Ball announced their regular Gubernatorial and Congressional race ratings. Among the changes in the House races is a shift of PA-6 from “Likely Republican” to “Safe Republican”.

“Moving from Likely Republican to Safe Republican this week are seven such seats: Reps. Jeff Denham (CA-10), Steve King (IA-4), John Kline (MN-2), Steve Pearce (NM-2), and Joe Heck (NV-3), as well as open seats PA-6 and WI-6,” Sabato and Kondik write.

“A combination of underwhelming Democratic candidates (CA-10, NV-3, and PA-6 in particular) and a too-tough environment help explain why these seats should stay Republican,” they explain.

The perception that Trivedi is “underwhelming” may come from the actions of the DCCC. The national committee never really wanted Trivedi in the race as they were backing Mike Parrish. After Trivedi jumped in following Gerlach’s retirement announcement, however, Parrish dropped out.

Additionally, the DCCC pulled out of the 6th district last week, canceling a scheduled ad buy.

Trivedi is running against GOP nominee and Chester County Commissioner Ryan Costello for the open seat in the 6th district.

  1. Easy there, K.E. Keohane! It was a direct quote from Sabato’s Crystal Ball. But regardless, the quality of a candidacy is not 100% associated with professional credentials.

  2. You guys make me sick. To declare Dr. Trivedi an “underwhelming candidate” is not only inaccurate, it is flat-out wrong. His credentials to represent the 6th District far surpass the young, career politician, Costello’s. Trivedi is an Iraq War vet and who served as a Navy battalion surgeon, and a family physician here is Chester County. He has served as a healthcare policy advisor and will bring much life experience to the job. He is not a career politician – unlike Costello, a partisan hack who has been running for office all his young life. His lie-filled attack campaign against Dr. Trivedi disqualifies him from holding any public office, IMO. I hope your readers see your report/endorsement for what it is. Just YOUR opinion.
