PA-7: Balchunis Crushes Golderer

maryellenbalchunisMary Ellen Balchunis will get another crack at Congressman Pat Meehan after cruising to victory for the Democratic nomination.

The 2014 Democratic nominee beat Bill Golderer by more than 50 points, though the political newcomer and pastor posted much better fundraising numbers throughout the campaign.

With 99% of the precincts in, Balchunis has 51,548 votes (74%) compared to Golderer’s 18,279 votes (26%).

Three-term GOP Congressman Meehan saw his own primary challenge by a similar margin, picking up 77% of the vote.

The 7th Congressional District includes most of Delaware County as well as parts of Chester, Montgomery, Berks and Lancaster Counties.

  1. Now if the party had even half the 4 million it spent on McGinty we would have no trouble electing the wonderful human being, smart, progressive, capable candidate Mary Ellen Balchunis.

  2. HAHAHAHA! Back to Jonestown Rev Golderer. what a joke. The DCCC donors should be absolutely livid. Golderer was the poorest investment I’ve ever seen. although his mailers sure were”special”

  3. looks like some people will never recognize hard work. People doubted Mary Ellen in the primary and she crushed Golderer with a fraction of the money! She deserves it! Let’s switch that seat!

  4. Congratulations to one of the most sincere, polite and good people I have had the pleasure to know in politics.

People can and could disagree with party positions but anyone who doesn’t recognize this candidate as a worthy human being is off tilt when it comes to what types of human beings we need to engage in serious debates of issues.

I only hope that the arrogance of incumbency will allow Congressman Meehan to run a sincerely respectful campaign and debate with her on issues instead of hide behind the contributors and incumbency of his office.

Win or lose he would gain a great deal of insight from a real set of issues discussions to replace the polarization that incumbents often use to maintain power. Blocking knowledge and empathy toward others views is not constructive for our national debates about our futures.

  5. Mary Ellen is a joke. And will get crushed AGAIN against Meehan. Golderer didn’t run a great campaign, but Mary Ellen is the same tired, sorry, uninspiring candidate who insures another term for Pat. Sad.

  6. Congrats to Mary Ellen, a REAL Democrat and supporter of the party and other candidates for decades.

More proof that the DCCC doesn’t know the difference between money and talent.

Golderer had 10 times as much money and couldn’t do sh*t with it. Same as Lindy Li (who was Mary Ellen’s opponent until New Year’s), and got kicked off the ballot by underfunded Parrish.

Fetterman certainly outperformed the polls and $$$ spent per vote.

  7. At least one good person won tonight. Mary Elen is a dedicated Democrat who works hard. The powers that be didn’t win this one. But she’s really going to have to step it up with money to try and take on Meehan.

  8. It’s not surprising people found it strange voting for a self-professed pastor who helped expedite abortions.

  9. Way to go Dems. Throw the same dead fish at Meehan again. That guarantees 2 more years of him representing the 7th.
