PA-8: Gabby Giffords’ Group Endorses Santarsiero

santarsieroPA-8 Democratic nominee State Rep. Steve Santarsiero won the endorsement of Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS).

ARS is the group started by former Congresswoman and shooting survivor Gabrielle Giffords and her husband astronaut Mark Kelly.

“Steve Santarsiero knows that with freedom comes responsibility, and that we can do more to keep guns out of the wrong hands while protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners like us,” Rep. Giffords and Cpt. Kelly wrote in a joint statement. “We are proud to support Steve, a leader who is committed standing up to the Washington gun lobby and to bipartisan change that will help prevent gun tragedies. In Congress, Steve will be a tireless champion for the vocal majority of Pennsylvanians who are calling on their elected leaders to do more to reduce gun violence and make our communities safer.”

“From working to close the background check loophole to making sure terrorists can’t get their hands on guns, I’ve worked tirelessly to keep our families and communities safe from preventable gun violence,” Santarsiero responded. “I am honored to have the support of ARS — an organization that knows we can both respect the Second Amendment rights of gun-owners while also ensuring that we adopt common sense gun safety measures that save lives.”

The 8th Congressional District represents all of Bucks County as well as parts of upper Montgomery County.

  1. I never said it was a disqualification. I was responding to the false notion that an endorsement by “locals” (meaning cops who may or may not actually live in the district), was somehow more important than an endorsement by a national group. Endorsements certainly are interesting, but they’ve never influenced my vote, and I imagine none of yours either. I won’t be voting for BRIAN Fitzpatrick because he’s phony who’s trying to move back here and inherit a job from his brother as if the U.S. Congress was a family business owned by daddy. I won’t vote for him because he doesn’t represent my view on a whole host of issues, particularly a woman’s right to choose her own health care options including abortion. I strongly believe that elected officials should be judged by the legislation they write and sponsor and the constituent service they deliver. Steve has done all of those, Brian has done none. Instead, Brian will sit around for the next 40 years of his life collecting a federal pension on my dime and if he wins this election, he’ll get even more. So if padding the bank account of a federal pensioner is a goal of yours, by all mean vote for Brian.

  2. Porter, I don’t understand the ridiculous logic of people who believe that if you grew up in an area then moved away briefly and did something in your professional life… and then came back to serve..that is somehow a disqualification? Do we only want candidates whose life experience has been living within the same town that grew up in? I would hope not. This issue is a red herring and practically the only negative thing that Santarsiero supporters can say about Brian Fitzpatrick. Too bad Steve can’t talk about his legislative accomplishments because there are none!

  3. People who wouldn’t know the area, like someone who hasn’t lived here for years, someone like Brian “I just moved here” Fitzpatrick?

  4. …and The Fraternal Order of Police in Bucks and Montgomery counties endorsed Brian Fitzpatrick. I will take the local police organizations’ endorsement rather than someone’s group who wouldn’t know the area.

  5. Gee, why is NRA so upset with common sense restrictions on 50-round magazines for AR-15’s? You’d think 10 shots at a clip would be enough to take down those tin cans.
