PA-8: Malik Jumps Into GOP Primary

MalikA third candidate has emerged in the PA-8 2016 GOP primary.

Iraq War veteran and former Bucks County Assistant DA Dean Malik has thrown his hat into the ring.

“[I’m running] to be a voice for all the people of the 8th Congressional District who believe in the unparalleled exceptionalism of this nation and who wish to ensure a bright future for generations to come,” Malik pledged in his announcement statement.

Malik originally declared his candidacy back in 2009 but dropped out after Mike Fitzpatrick decided to seek a rematch with then-Congressman Patrick Murphy. Now that Fitzpatrick is stepping aside, Malik is getting back into the race.

The other Republican candidates so far are State Representative Scott Petri and former Bucks County Commissioner Andrew Warren.

On the Democratic side, State Rep. Steve Santarsiero and 2014 candidate Shaughnessy Naughton are fighting for the nomination.

The 8th District consists of all of Bucks County as well as part of upper Montgomery County.
