Democratic congressional candidate Shaughnessy Naughton snagged her biggest endorsement of the election cycle today.
In an email to her supporters, Naughton revealed that she has received the backing of former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.
“The Democratic primary for Congress in the 8th District has two excellent candidates,” Rendell writes. “However, I believe that Shaughnessy Naughton is the most qualified candidate and has the best chance to unseat Republican Mike Fitzpatrick in the fall.”
Naughton’s email does not mention her primary opponent Kevin Strouse but instead takes aim at Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks).
“As a small business owner, I present a stark contrast to Mike Fitzpatrick,” Naughton writes. I know how to balance a budget, negotiate, and think long term. As Governor Rendell has said, ‘No business in this country has grown successful without investing in its own growth. Same goes for us.’ Unlike Mike Fitzpatrick, I understand that firsthand.”

She claims to be a small business owner yet she takes positions that I find hard to believe that a real small business owner would take. Could someone enlighten me on her business; what does it do? how many employees? Did she inherit it?
I agree that fracking is a stupid issue to run on, and in particular since the Delaware River Basin Commission, a four state intergovernmental group, issued the ban, not the feds. However, let’s be clear that the issue these two boneheads (and I am a D who dislikes them both) are trading shots on isn’t fracking in general, but who supports the current ban in the basin or wants to make it “permanent” (as if anything involving people could ever be). So Rendell’s support for fracking in general is not the issue, as neither of the candidates oppose all fracking (nor do the majority of Democrats in general).
If Rendells endorsing I’m running the other direction. He’s an irrelevant perv that’s why he endorsed cute lil Shaunessy. This lil lady has a bright future. Psst Shaunessy just between us girls If YOU SEE FAST EDDIE COMING RUNNNNNN
With her strong stance against fracking I wonder if she asked Rendell why he presided over a DEP that issued thousands of permits for gas drilling while slashing the budget for the regulatory agency? All under weaker environmental laws than those in place now.
Also, it really annoys me when congressional candidates try to make fracking a federal issue. It’s not even a topic of discussion on the federal level and won’t be for a very long time, if ever. So why not focus on the things that they can actually do something about?
No seriously does it matter? His endorsement means nothing especially this late in the game.
No seriously, Rendell oversaw the largest expansion of fracking in PA’s history. Why is she celebrating this?
Endorsements mean very little in reality. Heck McGinty has some pretty big name endorsers and she’s going to come in dead last in the Gov’s race.
Someday – and that day may never come – I will call upon you to do a service for me. Until that day, accept this justice as a gift.
I guess he wanted to endorse the candidate living and voting in Philadelphia.
At least she’s from Bucks County…
Interesting that she is celebrating this endorsement.
Wasn’t Rendell the one responsible for the biggest expansion of fracking in Pennsylvania?
