PA-8: Sierra Club Endorses Santarsiero

santarsieroThe Sierra Club is taking sides in the PA-8 Democratic primary between Steve Santarsiero and Shaughnessy Naughton.

The conservation group announced they’ll be backing Santarsiero.

“We need more environmental champions like Steve Santarsiero in Congress,” said Dave Hemberger, the Political Chair for the Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter. “In Washington, Steve will stand-up to the fossil fuel industry, protect our climate, our environment, and our public health, and invest in a clean energy economy to create jobs and transition us off of dirty fuels. He is the clear choice for representing Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District and is the proven leader we can count on.”

“I’ve fought fracking in our backyards, worked to protect open space, led the fight to stop climate change and will continue advocating for clean air and water in Congress,” said Steve Santarsiero. “I’m proud to have the Sierra Club’s endorsement and I know that nobody in the race for Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District will work harder than I will to protect our environment.”

The primary election is set for April 26th.

  1. It must be awesome to have someone who has successfully fought fracking in their backyards. I asked in Oct, 2012, when the majority of our commonwealth still had a prayer of not being carved into an extraction colony, and I still have to ask (since no one has answered):

“Why only protect two counties – Bucks and Montgomery – where 1) very little if any fracking occurs, and 2) many politically connected and wealthy people live?”

  2. Santarsiero rolls out endorsements from major orgs, statewide elected officials and some of the most powerful unions in the state. Meanwhile Naughton responds with…nothing? Have to wonder if her fundraising has dried up. Not even bragging about last quarter? Come on Shaughnessy. You can do better than this.
