Kevin Strouse made his TV debut earlier today, conducting an interview on MSNBC’s “Jansing & Co.”.
The Democratic congressional candidate, who served in the Afghan and Iraq wars as an Army Ranger, appeared on the program to talk about veterans issues, specifically the troubling findings from a recent Washington Post poll that asked about the problems service members face when they return home.
“If you think about where these veterans are coming from, they’re coming from a culture of success, of problem-solving, of getting the job done,” Strouse stated when asked by Jansing about the sober statistics. “And then they get out and they look at what’s going on in Congress right now and what they’re seeing is a culture of failure and frankly lame excuses.”
Strouse also recounted a story of his brother-in-law dealing with the large backlog of VA claims.
“Ultimately money is a band-aid approach to this and it’s certainly something we need to be doing, but I also think at the end of the day we’re gonna have to make a strategic investment in the VA,” he said. “Certainly to upgrade their IT infrastructure so that they can process these claims, so they can work more closely with the Department of Defense and really improve the rate at which they adjudicate these claims.”
The candidate also asserted that the part of the reason a majority of soldiers don’t feel the Iraq war was worth fighting is the negative effect that conflict has had on our relationships with Iran and Syria.
This was Strouse’s first appearance on national TV and was likely facilitated by former Rep. Patrick Murphy. Murphy has been a quiet supporter of Strouse and is a contributor for MSNBC where he hosts an occasional weekend show “Taking the Hill” that focuses on military and veteran issues.
Strouse faces Shaughnessy Naughton in the Democratic primary.

Impressive. Kevin’s got my vote.
Kevin truly seems like the right candidate to take on and beat Fitzpatrick. Strouse has my vote!
So can the one running this site explain why every appearance of Mike Fitzpatrick on television isn’t covered here? Biased, weak, reporting…
We need more people like Kevin Strouse to represent us in Congress!
