The United Steelworkers (USW) announced their endorsement for Democrat Kevin Strouse in his run for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District.
“The USW is proud to endorse Kevin Strouse for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District. Kevin fought for his country in the Army Rangers and will continue his distinguished career of service as an advocate for a fair wage and unemployment insurance in Congress. Kevin will also fight to rebuild our manufacturing base and to create good paying jobs in southeast Pennsylvania,” said USW PA Director John DeFazio.
The USW has more than 165,000 active and retired members in Pennsylvania and is North America’s largest manufacturing union.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of the United Steelworkers,” Strouse said. “Together we will fight to create family-supportive manufacturing jobs, raise the minimum wage, extend emergency unemployment benefits to protect the livelihoods of millions of American workers.”
This endorsement is Strouse’s sixth from a union.
“The USW endorsement reflects the growing consensus in the labor community that Kevin Strouse is the best candidate for working families in Bucks and Montgomery Counties,” said Strouse staffer, Finance Director Justin Lamorte.
Strouse is a former Army Ranger, CIA Officer, and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. He currently resides in Bensalem, PA with his wife Amy, a consultant in the field of healthcare IT, and his two young children, Walter and Charlotte.
Strouse’s other endorsements include the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, the United Food and Commercial Workers and the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals.
Also running in the Democratic primary for PA-8 is Shaughnessy Naughton, scientist and businesswoman.
