PA-9: Shuster Hangs on Against Halvorson

Bill-ShusterCongressman Bill Shuster pulled out a nail-biting victory in Tuesday’s primary and will retain his seat in the U.S. House.

The Associated Press called the race with Shuster leading Art Halvorson by 4 points, 52-48%, with 80% of the vote counted.

Ultimately, Shuster edged out his opponent 50.52% to 49.48%. The difference was just 1,009 (48,686 to 47,677) with 99% of precincts in.

This is the second straight victory for Shuster over Halvorson.

The House Transportation Committee Chairman will now run unopposed in the November general election.

The 9th Congressional District consists of all or parts of Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Huntingdon, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland Counties.

  1. Fayette County saved his fat arse. What is going on there that Shuster won overwhelmingly? Even Blair county went for Halvorson. If Fayette would have trended like the other counties in the district Halvorson would have won by 2000+ instead of losing by 1000

  2. Once again, Shuster had to outspend his opponent almost tenfold in order to just barely hang on. A good candidate with enough money could pose a threat to him 2018.

  3. Somebody PLEASE win a lottery, run a successful write-in campaign and dump this load of hogwash! And no, it wasn’t Shuster’s money that won. It was Halvorsan’s far-right wackiness that scared off moderates — many of whom switched to Democrat to vote for Bernie and Fetterman.

  4. In this race the better man did not win. Money is the name of the game in American politics.

  5. Now he can get back to his airline lobbyist gf as he ponders how best to regulate the airline industry.
