PA-9: Shuster’s Highway Bill Passes the House

bill_shusterCongressman Bill Shuster is taking a victory lap after passing a major highway bill through the House of Representatives.

The Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act, which passed by a vote of 363 to 64, is a piece of legislation that reauthorizes highway funding for the next six years.

Rep. Shuster serves as Chairman of the House Transportation Committee and securing a multi-year bill, the first since 2005, has been a major goal of his.

“A long-term highway bill impacts the life of every single American,” said Congressman Shuster. “Our families will have safer roads and our small businesses and communities will thrive with a stronger transportation network. This long-term bill accomplishes something long overdue. It provides our state and local partners the certainty needed to invest in major projects that will spur economic growth.”

“We all drive on roads and bridges across Central and Southwestern Pennsylvania that are in desperate need of repair,” continued Shuster. “These investments cannot happen without a long-term bill, and I am proud that the House took action on an issue that quite frankly could not wait any longer.”

The bill was amended to H.R. 22. It now awaits action in the Senate.

  1. I am a Republican who lives in his district, but I’ve never voted for him and I never will. Shuster is the poster boy for everything that’s wrong with Washington, including his lobbyist girlfriend.

  2. NOT SURPRISED: Because there are more Republicans than Democrats in their gerrymandered district. And because political offices and judgeships have become hereditary. Do a family tree of the candidates of both parties for all positions and nearly all have familial connections to either some past politician or the other “Family” in PA. Some have both connections.

  3. So he actually admitted that PA has some of the worst roads and bridges in the entire country despite the fact that he and his dad have been in charge of Transportation for most of the last four decades? Remind me again why we keep electing this crime family?
