Pa Dems Raising $$ Over Metcalfe Birther Bill

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Yesterday we reported that State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) has introduced a bill to require candidates for President and VP to prove their “constitutional eligibility” to run for office in PA.

We said that it’s par for the course for Metcalfe, and likely to strike a chord with those that doubt President Obama’s citizenship aka “birthers.” At the same time, we guessed “delight conservatives as well as Democrats.”

Today, we say we told ya so. The PA Democrats have just sent out a fundraising appeal asking for supporters to “Help us fight for Pennsylvania and stand up to the Tea Party and radicals like Daryl Metcalfe.”

Here’s the email, subject heading Stop the Tea Party in PA:

Yesterday, Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) introduced an extreme piece of legislation tied to the birther movement, which believes that President Obama was not born in the United States. Instead of working to create jobs and help the middle class, Pennsylvania Republicans are pandering to political extremists and the Tea Party.

It’s time to reject Republicans’ radical, out of touch agenda.

Help us fight for Pennsylvania and stand up to the Tea Party and radicals like Daryl Metcalfe.

Donate $25, $50, or $100 today.

Republicans are out of touch with Pennsylvania. They presented a budget that will raise tuition, increase property taxes and cut services for schools and hospitals. Now, they’re trying to pander to the most extreme elements of their party.

We are standing up to Republicans and their Tea Party allies, but we’re going to need your help.

For $25 we can put up online ads for a day in Pittsburgh that hold Republicans accountable. If you donate $100 dollars, we can run a series of radio ads in NEPA. The fight won’t be easy and every dollar matters.

Please help us stand up to the extreme Tea Party; we simply can’t do it without you.

Thanks for all of your support.

Very Truly Yours,

Jim Burn
