PA GOP: Voter Deception, Fraud and Abuse Spell Desperation for Patrick Murphy

Chairman Gleason calls on Patrick Murphy to disclose his role in Bucks Dem Ab Ballot scandal

HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement regarding the recent deceptive mailer that was sent out by the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee.  Click here to see the mailer.

“The Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee’s mailing conveys the false impression that the fictional Pennsylvania Voter Assistance Office (PVA) is a government entity, and it jeopardizes voters’ rights to cast their vote by improperly interfering in our electoral process.” Gleason said.  “As evidence that the PVA Mailing and similar activities have created serious legal violations of the election process, we have been advised that the Bucks County Bureau of Elections has rejected hundreds of absentee ballot applications this year on suspicion of being fraudulent applications.”

We also received a Patrick Murphy for Congress 2010 email message with similar language, where they describe an absentee ballot program that raises serious concerns about potential abuses of the absentee ballot process and the rights of voters. Click here to read the Murphy Campaign email.

Gleason continued, “It seems that Patrick Murphy has turned to desperate and possibly illegal tactics to make people forget about his time in Congress where he governed with the extreme left wing of his party.  The voters won’t be fooled.  They want a new direction of honest and fair government, not politics as usual.

“I call on Patrick Murphy to immediately disclose his role in the Bucks County Democratic Committee’s absentee ballot scandal.”

The Allentown Morning Call reported yesterday that the Bucks County Democratic Committee has sent mailers to county residents with the label “Pennsylvania Voter Assistance Office,” an office which does not exist. One set of mailings listed itself as a “THIRD AND FINAL NOTICE,” and noted that a failure to fill out the form would put the voter’s ability to cast their ballot in this year’s election at risk. When pressed on the matter, the Bucks County Democratic Chair John Cordisco was quoted in the media on October 19th regarding the mailings stating, “So if they want to call that misleading…then I won’t debate that.” (Scott Kraus, “Voter Mailer Labeled Misleading,” The Allentown Morning Call, 10/20/10)
