The closer we get to election day, the more negative it’s going to get.
The Corbett-Cawley campaign unveiled their latest ad today, entitled “Learning Curve”, which accuses their opponent of robbing Pennsylvania taxpayers.
“Tom Wolf is a multi-millionaire calling for raising taxes on middle-class families,” the thirty-second spot asserts. (Since they cite us, we feel obliged to note that’s not really what Wolf said).
“But how did Wolf get so rich? Off the backs of middle-class taxpayers,” the ad continues.
The narrator of the spot goes on to allege that the Democratic nominee funneled pension money to his company and laid off employees. These charges echo attacks Allyson Schwartz made against Wolf in the primary and that the Inquirer looked into in April.
“Tom Wolf: The more you learn, the more dishonest he seems,” the commercial concludes.
This ad comes on the heels of today’s Quinnipiac Poll showing the Governor down 17 points. Additionally, the third and final gubernatorial debate is tomorrow night, so this may be an indication that Corbett will go after Wolf’s business history in their final showdown.
Regardless, it is going to be a spirited final four weeks.
Update: Wolf Campaign Spokesman Jeffrey Sheridan sent the following comment to PoliticsPA:
“Tom bought the company back and saved it in the middle of the Great Recession. As a result, hundreds of jobs were saved. Today, the company is growing and thriving and all the employees and investors share in that success. Governor Corbett’s latest attack is more of the same and an attempt to distract from his own failed record that includes drastic $1 billion cuts to education, disastrous fiscal mismanagement, and dismal job growth over the last four years.”

Barricks, Nothing but smiles over here. I’m getting the popcorn ready for watching MSNBC election night. It’s gonna be a bloodbath.
Kathleen3 – 4 years into the job and Corbett STILL isn’t prepared to be governor.

Unsanctioned R, the Democrats? Were you referring to Romney, et al? Where shall the crying towels be shipped to you and Kathleen3?
Tom Wolf is obviously so ill prepared to serve as governor. It is time voters place principles over Party and past the time we allow millionaires to purchase power via elected office.
@CentPAdem you’re right, I thought you were describing Romney-Obama.
@Barricks, to answer your question it was at the same time Democrats decided 1%ers who get bailouts from public pension $ should be our elected leaders.
When did “millionaire” become a dirty word to the Republicans? The Republican plan in the House and Senate is to RAISE taxes on the middle class to replace property taxes, at the same time increases in real earnings for working people are next to nothing. Such desperate bullsh**, but I love it. Election day cannot get here soon enough.
If you put up the following description of 2 candidates #1 is a successful business man who rebuilt a business after someone else took it to the brink of failure VS #2 who is a lawyer, has been employed in government jobs and has been an elected official most of his life, candidate 1 appears to the brand the Repubs love to promote and run.
Hit it again.
I like the editorializing of the titles. Keep up the clickbating!
WHILE THE GRIDIRON IS GOING ON, ACTING GOVERNOR BRABENDER THOUGHT HE COULD SNEAK LIVE ON HARDBALL! NOT ONE WORD WAS MENTIONED DURING HIS MSNBC APPEARANCE ON BRABENDER’S CORBETT RACE EVEN THOUGH HE WILL MAKE MILLIONS FROM GULLIBLE PAGOP DONORS! WE NEED A FRESH START! WE NEED A STATE NOT RUN BY THE DC GOP CONSULTING CLASS!
THE PA ECONOMY AND PA BUDGET IS UNWINDING ALMOST DAILY! CORBETT WILL GO-HE NEEDS TO GO! THIS STATE NEEDS REAL LEADERSHIP! THE STATE NEEDS TO BE MANAGED BY PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT ITS FUTURE: NOT ACTING GOVERNOR BRABENDER AND HIS MINION LIKE BRIAN NUTT OR LESLIE GROMIS-BAKER! http://youtu.be/h048vHW7sms
FORMER GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT HAS SUCKED OFF THE TITS OF TAXPAYERS FOR ALMOST HIS ENTIRE CAREER! NOW HE SEEMS TO BE ATTACKING CAPITALISM, A GREAT COMPANY IN PA! HE HAS THE ADUACITY TO CALL GOVERNOR WOLF A CROOK! TOM CORBETT NEEDS SOME REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE: NO LONGER BE CHAUFFEURED BY THE STATE POLICE; NO MORE GOVERNOR MANSIONS! VOTERS WILL INTRODUCE HIM TO THE REAL WORLD VERY SOON! BUT IS THIS REALLY ABOUT CORBETT? IT IS ABOUT ACTING GOVERNOR BRABENDER SELLING A FEW MORE ADS!
When you read the Inquirer article, it’s amazing how inaccurate and misleading the ad is. It refers to “Wolf’s company” doing things after Tom left and a management company was in charge, but attributing the actions to Wolf.
goevenor corbit aint no dead nothing, hes are gov and is gonna remane are guv for anuther for yrs and he aint never sed nothing badd about john wolfe,
I can’t wait to find out just how dishonest this desperate piece of advertising is.
