PA-Gov: Hanger Leaves the Wolf Administration

John-Hanger-portraitOne of Wolf’s key staffers is stepping down.

John Hanger, Secretary of Policy and Planning, is resigning. Hanger was previously DEP Secretary under Governor Rendell and ran for Governor in 2014.

Sarah Galbally, Hanger’s Deputy Secretary, will replace him.

“John’s service to my administration has been invaluable, and it is difficult to see John leave his current position. I have known John for many years and I am glad that John will continue to provide me the benefit of his counsel and expertise in the years ahead,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “Sarah has been a key advisor for more than two and a half years. She has served ably as John’s deputy, and I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role.”

“It has been an honor to serve an extraordinary governor and his administration who work tirelessly to make better Pennsylvania. It is difficult to leave, but I cannot be in two places at once,” said John Hanger. “Commuting regularly to and from Massachusetts and doing my demanding job has become impossible. At this point, it is important to place first my wife of 36 years and my remarkable daughter who have supported me in my work. We have accomplished so much in a little more than one year including Medicaid expansion, a comprehensive plan to combat the heroin crisis and enacting greater environmental protections. Sarah, who has served as my deputy, is a tremendous asset to the administration and I wish her all the best in her new role.”

The Governor’s office also announced that Acting Secretary of Legislative Affairs Will Danowski is being promoted and the “Acting” will be removed from his title.

  1. Will miss your intelligence, John. We don’t have to agree on all the issues to respect one another, and you had my respect. Massachusetts gains, PA loses.

  2. John you were never a true wolfpack guy. Just like Katie you never were “those type of people”
    Another one bites the dust!
The building will continue to fall. The Wolfpack has NO foundation. A bunch of mean hateful misfits.
Keep watching as they play humpty dumpty. Which Wolf sign holder will get the next high paying wolfpack job. Or who will get moved around to a new political job???
    Cheers Gov

  3. That guy came in last for a reason. But Mr PH.D. will still have him on speed dial. Is there a budget yet? Has Eakin resigned yet?

  4. What am I missing? Why is he commuting to and from Massachusetts? Wasn’t he a candidate for governor of Pennsylvania in the last election? Does he live here or is he another Sestak?
