State Treasurer and gubernatorial candidate Rob McCord picked up the backing of the 14th Ward Independent Democratic Club.
The organization employs an open voting process to determine its endorsements and even had McCord and fellow Democratic gubernatorial candidates Tom Wolf and Katie McGinty come to speak at its annual meeting.
In the end, McCord won their support for Governor while Brad Koplinski is their preferred candidate for Lieutenant Governor.
The Club is made up of 18,000 registered Democrats in the 14th ward. The ward is the largest in Pittsburgh and includes all or part of Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, North Point Breeze, Regent Square, Park Place, and Swisshelm Park.
The 14th Ward Independent Democratic Club is not affiliated with the Allegheny County Democratic Committee yet recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

McCordLies, you sound like Allyson Schwartz and her knowledge of geography. There is a lot more to Western PA than just Allegheny County.
McCordlies – You realize the 14th Ward is Peduto and Fitzgerald’s ward right?
If your voting block isn’t with you the endorsement doesn’t mean a whole lot.
Now the same goes for McCord. If his vast array of support does not GOTV, he has no chance of winning. I think they realize what is at stake here but I may be wrong.

As a former Hanger supporter, I am now fully on-board the Rob McCord bandwagon. McCord is articulate, understands finance, is quick on his feet, and his excellent command of the English language indicates a keen intellect. He is closest to the philosophical positions which attracted me to Hanger in the first place!
This is the same old problem. As Democrats we’re really great at taking an awesome opportunity and messing it up. (i.e. Bush v. Kerry 2004).
There are so many Republicans and Independents that want to vote for Tom Wolf if he is our nominee. Just read the comments on this very blog from Republicans who openly admit that they would vote for Wolf over Corbett.
Instead, once again, Democrats are going to mess up an awesome opportunity to by supporting an less-electable, typical politician like Rob McCord.
Tom Wolf is Tom Corbett’s worst nightmare. Tom Wolf is the best candidate to take Corbett on according to all the polls. In fact Wolf has the largest margin of victory of Corbett than any other Dem candidate according to ALL the polls.
McCord is a self-absorbed, arrogant man who is getting paid by us taxpayers to run for Governor while ignoring the job he was elected to do. Blue collar Western and Central PA see McCord for what he really is. Just another typical politician who lied about his past and outsourced PA jobs when he was in the private sector. McCord will lose the primary election by a wide margin.
Philly 8th ward is a key ward.
The momentum for Wolf seems to have slowed. A low turnout helps McCord because he is winning the endorsement race. Wolf’s support is more a mile wide and an inch deep.

The kicker is that McCord also scored the endorsement of the 8th Ward in Philadelphia.
That is equally huge as folks who follow Philly politics knows that the 8th Ward is one of the bellwether wards of the city.
Its a big get and potentially huge election day headache for Wolf.
